Brussel Sprouts… we either love them or hate them. I read it is a genetic thing. Studies have shown that the perceived bitterness of cruciferous vegetables (broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower and kale) is linked to genetic differences in taste receptors, on the tongue. Described as an autosomal dominant gene, you only need to inherit it from one of your parents. So if you actually hate the taste, it’s not your fault nor the cooks. We ate them as kids and I like them, so I guess I don’t have that gene. Here they are attached to their stalk. Brussel sprouts are high in antioxidants, vitamins, minerals and fiber. The added health benefits include, reducing the risk of cancer, decreased inflammation and improved blood sugar control.
